To develop a complete manufacturing system utilising torc material, extensive research took place following which Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) or 3D printing as it’s more commonly known was confirmed as the principle process. In collaboration with Warwick Manufacturing Group (The University of Warwick) the testing of torc granules on a laboratory ‘direct feed’ system has proven to be fully viable.
Now up-scaling is required to accommodate the dimensions of AFOs utilising a multi-head system, adapted, integrated, and fully tested by WMG.
The unique properties of torc material will offer significant benefits within devices such as Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO), Hip Spica, and Prosthetic Socket Liners, that will result in a positive impact on the lives of infants, youngsters, and adults living with conditions such as cerebral palsy, hip dysplasia and lower limb amputation.
